Why this petition matters

Started by Matthew P

Six Flags Over Texas is making plans to replace the historic Chaparral Antique Cars with a tacky jurassic safari.

We, the undersigned guests and employees (past and present) of Six Flags strongly urge park leadership to focus its efforts on improving the ride as it is and cancel plans to replace it.

  • "Chaps" opened in 1962 and is the second oldest attraction in the park. It has been a beloved, family-friendly ride for generations of park guests. Many of us have fond childhood memories of riding Chaps with our parents, and today we create new memories by sharing it with our children.
  • The antique cars are wildly popular even on slow days. It doesn't need to be re-themed to increase ridership. Countless numbers of guests have ridden and love this ride.
  • Texas was home to a handful of dinosaurs, but the vast majority of them lived elsewhere. Dinosaurs aren't a significant part of Texas history. (The most famous Texas dinosaur is Barney.)
  • Chaps is thoroughly entrenched in Texas history. The cars' namesake was the Chaparral model built by the Cleburne Motor Car Manufacturing Co. in 1911.
  • The antique cars fit in perfectly with the western theme in the Texas section of the park. Six Flags should strive for preserving the cohesive thematic identity in that area.
  • Chaps is comparatively cheap to operate and maintain. There are no expensive animatronics or figures to clean and repair.

We acknowledge and appreciate the effort and creativity towards introducing new attractions. However, we also value the park's history and believe that removing the antique cars would be a tremendous loss to present and future generations of park guests.

Please preserve a treasured part of the park's history by keeping the Chaparral Antique Cars.
